First Floor Projects was established by James Tregaskes in March 2009 with the intention to exhibit and represent the works of emerging international artists. The gallery’s curatorial concern is to provide a forum for a core group of artists who, being from the same generation, embody the gallery’s distinctive voice. Central to this is the ‘salon’ style of presenting contemporary art in a residential space. Eschewing the conventions of the “white cube” environment, First Floor Projects seeks to reestablish the value of context.

As a commercial gallery, First Floor Projects works closely with collectors, museums and consultants in the surroundings of a London townhouse. Acknowledging the importance of these individuals and organisations in supporting emerging art, the gallery seeks to recognise and develop the symbiotic relationship between artist, collector and gallery.

James Tregaskes previously worked for galleries including Timothy Taylor Gallery, Corvi-Mora and White Cube in London and Artists Space in New York. In addition to this he worked for Frieze Art Fair and provides consultancy to private clients and arts organisations.

Hannah Magor studied 20th Century British Art at The Courtauld Institute and previously worked with Calum Sutton PR on projects such as the Venice Biennial, Manchester International Festival and Frieze Art Fair.
